Droz BA,Sneed BL, Jackson CV, Zimmerman KM, Michael MD, Emmerson PJ, et al. (2017) Correlation of disease severity with body weight and high fat diet in the FATZO/Pco mouse. PLOS ONE 12(6):e0179808.
Many clinical studies have established a link between higher body weight and the development of type 2 diabetes.
A naturally occurring and significant variation in the body weight of FATZO offspring enables these mice to be identified as low, mid and high body weight groups. This publication investigated whether the onset and severity of type 2 diabetes in FATZO mice was dependent on their initial weight and whether criteria could be established to optimize studies of diabetes.

- How consumption of a diet containing high fat, accelerated weight gain in parallel with disease progression in FATZO mice.
- How to identify low, mid and high body weight groups and the correlation to development of diabetes.
- How body weight inclusion criteria can optimize studies of prevention, stabilization or treatment of type 2 diabetes
