Our CEO's Pledge to Sustainability

At Crown Bioscience we recognize that our industry has an important role to play in mitigating climate change and minimizing our impact on the environment. As a Contract Research Organization (CRO), our work impacts not only the advancement of science but also the ecosystems and communities that are part of the broader global environment. In line with this, our sustainability strategy has two key pillars: Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emission Reduction and Reduction in the Use of Mice in Studies.

We recognize that our industry has an important role to play in mitigating climate change and minimizing our impact on the environment.

Greenhouse Gas Emission Reduction

One of the central elements of our sustainability strategy is our dedication to reducing the carbon footprint of our operations. We have set ambitious Science-Based Targets to reduce our GHG emissions in line with the goals set by the Paris Agreement. This will be achieved through a combination of efforts, including:

  • Transitioning to renewable energy: We are committed to increasing our reliance on renewable energy sources in all our facilities, reducing our dependence on fossil fuels.

  • Energy efficiency improvements: Through continuous investment in energy-efficient technologies, we aim to minimize our energy consumption across our offices, laboratories, and production sites.

  • Carbon offset programs: For emissions that we cannot immediately eliminate, we will support certified carbon offset projects to neutralize our environmental impact.

Reducing the Number of Mice Used in Studies

We are equally committed to improving the welfare of animals used in research. Our company adheres to the ethical principles of the 3Rs (Replacement, Reduction, and Refinement) in animal testing, and we continuously seek opportunities to minimize the number of animals required in studies.

Key actions we are taking include:

  • Advancing alternative methods: We are investing in cutting-edge technologies, such as in virtual control groups, organoids, and computational simulations, to reduce the need for animal testing. These methods allow for more accurate, reliable, and humane research outcomes.

  • Optimizing study designs: By improving the design and statistical power of studies, we are able to achieve more with fewer animals, ensuring that each experiment is scientifically robust while using as few animals as necessary.

  • Collaboration with partners: We work closely with industry groups, regulatory bodies, and academic institutions to advance the development and validation of alternative testing methods.

Our approach to sustainability is not just about reducing our impacts, it’s about contributing to a future where scientific advancement and environmental responsibility go hand in hand. By pursuing both GHG emission reduction and minimizing animal use, we aim to not only meet the demands of our clients but also make meaningful contributions to the world we share.

We are fully committed to continuous improvement in our practices, and as always, we remain open to feedback and suggestions from stakeholders who share our commitment to sustainability.

Thank you for your support as we embark on this exciting journey. Together, we can drive change and ensure that progress in research is achieved with respect for both people and the planet.
