The location of implanted tumor models can affect stromal interactions (including immune response) and result in different tumor expansion. Despite this, there have been limited studies on gene expression differences in subcutaneous vs orthotopically implanted tumor models.

This poster details preliminary investigations into transcriptome differences between subcutaneous and orthotopic patient-derived xenograft (PDX) models. PDX are commonly used in the subcutaneous setting, but have more relevant organ-specific tumor microenvironment interactions and metastasis potential when implanted orthotopically.
